OVERVIEW

 The Tax AI Chatbot is an intelligent assistant designed to simplify the tax filing process by helping users quickly find relevant tax documents, navigate complex queries, and store conversations and uploaded documents within chat threads for future reference. It offers three versions—Basic, Pro, and Advanced—to cater to various user needs, from first-time filers to business owners needing personalized support. Users can upload tax documents directly into the chat, which are then saved within the thread for easy access in future conversations.

The chatbot provides instant document recommendations, remembers past interactions, and clearly references the sources of its responses. The Pro version unlocks premium features like advanced tax planning tools, while toast notifications alert users to success or error actions. This project aimed to streamline the tax filing experience, offering a seamless, accessible, and scalable solution for users at every level.

The Problem

Tax chatbots frustrate users with hard-to-find documents, complex jargon, and repetitive queries. Lacking context-awareness, they make interactions inefficient and forget past conversations. An AI solution that offers accurate, context-aware responses and simplifies document discovery is essential for a seamless experience.

User Interviews: Talking Taxes

We conducted 5+ in-depth interviews with individuals from different backgrounds—first-time filers, freelancers, and business owners—to understand:
✅ How they currently find tax documents.
✅ Their biggest frustrations with tax help services.
✅ What they expect from an AI-powered chatbot.

User Surveys: Numbers Don’t Lie

We collected responses from 10+ users to gather insights on:
1. How often do they struggle to find tax-related documents?
2. Their preference for chatbots vs. human tax advisors.
3. Whether they would pay for Pro & Advanced chatbot features. 

Spying on the Competition

I analyzed 3 leading tax chatbots to uncover:
🔹 What works well (e.g., instant form recommendations).
🔹 Where they fall short (e.g., lack of saved conversation history).
🔹 How we could differentiate our Basic, Pro, and Advanced versions.

A/B Testing

In an A/B test, 17% of users preferred light mode, while 25% leaned toward Dark Mode. Seeing the split, I merged the best elements of both designs to create a more intuitive UI, balancing user preferences for a seamless experience.

Vision Board

A seamless fusion of innovation and user experience, this AI chatbot embodies a sleek, modern aesthetic with intuitive interactions. The color palette reflects trust and intelligence, while fluid UI elements ensure effortless navigation. A balance of minimalism and personality makes the chatbot feel both smart and approachable.

The Solution

Streamline the interface by decluttering the layout, focusing on prioritizing essential elements like navigation, product details, and CTAs, while using white space effectively. Simplify the add-to-cart process by introducing a single-click "Add to Cart" button on product listing pages and incorporating a mini-cart for immediate confirmation without page redirection.
